A health scare emerged at J.M. Desai Vidhyamandir School in Jhank village, Dehgam taluka, Gujarat, as over 120 students experienced symptoms like eye redness, irritation, burning sensation, and double vision. Out of 225 students, 122 were affected and rushed to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for treatment and observation.

The symptoms began on June 30 and continued through Wednesday, with 120 students still reporting issues. Most of them have been treated and discharged, while two remain under observation. Fortunately, all students are stable, and no serious health complications have been reported.

The situation prompted quick action from the district administration and Kadadara Primary Health Centre, who visited the school and arranged for further testing at the Civil Hospital. There, students were not only treated but also provided meals during their stay.

Medical tests, including blood and urine analysis, have ruled out any kidney or liver damage, providing some relief to worried parents. However, the exact cause of the illness remains unknown, leaving health officials puzzled.

Authorities from various departments—health, food safety, and education—have collected water and food samples from the school and hostel. These have been sent for lab testing, and results are awaited.

Despite swift medical support, the lack of clarity about the source has raised concerns over the administration’s preparedness to handle such sudden health emergencies.
