President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday underlined the crucial role of the corporate sector as a pillar of India’s economic growth, while also stressing the need for quality assurance and innovation in defence capabilities. Addressing officer trainees of the Indian Corporate Law Service at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President said their future decisions would shape not just corporate regulations but also public trust in institutional governance.

You are key to creating a business ecosystem that is transparent, accountable, and supportive of innovation, she told the trainees, adding that their role in implementing and enforcing corporate laws carries wide-ranging national implications. Referring to the Companies Act, 2013, Murmu emphasized that the law should not only be enforced but also applied with fairness and justice to promote inclusive economic opportunity.

The President also met with officer trainees from the Defence Aeronautical Quality Assurance Service and the Central Labour Service. Speaking to them, she highlighted the strategic importance of quality in military aviation. Operational safety, mission readiness, and reliability are non-negotiable. You must ensure military aviation stores meet global airworthiness standards, she said.

Declaring 2025 as the ‘Year of Defence Reforms’, Murmu called for a dynamic integration of private enterprise within the defence manufacturing sector. India’s goal of indigenisation in defence requires technology transfers, supportive policies, and a strong partnership between public and private players, she noted. She urged trainees to adopt innovative strategies to transform India’s armed forces into technologically advanced, multi-domain operational units.
