Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has said that including Muslim women in India's progress is very important. He was speaking at a meeting organised by the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Friday. The meeting was held to discuss the rights of Muslim women in the country.
Rijiju, who handles Parliamentary and Minority Affairs, said empowering women is necessary for a society to grow. He quoted Babasaheb Ambedkar, saying that a society’s progress is seen by the condition of its women.
He said women must be made strong financially. When women are economically strong, they also become socially powerful. Rijiju added that he will try to take forward the ideas shared during the meeting.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar also spoke at the meeting. She said that the Commission is working hard to protect the rights of Muslim women. According to her, this meeting was not just another event but a serious effort to bring unheard voices into policymaking.
She said, “No woman, no matter her background, should be denied justice, respect, and rights.” She added that it’s not enough to just read laws — society is changing, and a balance between tradition and progress must be found.
Rahatkar also shared on social media that NCW is committed to giving every woman a voice. She said the goal of such meetings is to turn the voices of Muslim women into real actions and policy changes. It is part of a larger effort to ensure dignity for all women.
