A honeymoon couple from Indore went missing in Meghalaya’s Sohra area, sparking a mysterious investigation. Raja Raghuvanshi’s decomposed body was found near Weisawdong falls on June 2, but his wife Sonam remains missing. A local guide, Albert Pde, told police he saw the couple with three other men on May 23 while climbing the steep 3,000-step trail from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat. Pde recognized them as he had offered to guide them the previous day, but they had declined.

The couple spent the night at Shipara homestay and left without a guide the next morning. Their rented scooter was found abandoned in Sohrarim with keys still inside, but it wasn’t at the Mawlakhiat parking area. Sonam’s brother, Govind, frustrated with the search efforts, insisted she is alive and urged the involvement of agencies like the CBI.

The state government is actively searching despite challenges like rough terrain, heavy rain, and poor visibility. Police found a bloodstained machete near Raja’s body, with his ring and necklace missing. A raincoat believed to belong to Sonam was also found. Lack of CCTV and visitor logs at Mawlakhiat has complicated the case, so locals have decided to start recording visitor details. A special investigation team is working with rescue squads, mountaineers, drones, and sniffer dogs to continue the search.
