A political controversy has erupted in Jharkhand following the lathi-charge on students protesting in Hazaribagh. The students were demanding the cancellation of the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The issue gained momentum in the Jharkhand Assembly, where Opposition leaders staged protests and called for a CBI investigation into alleged exam irregularities.
Before the Assembly session, AJSU party MLA Nirmal Mahto led a dharna at the Assembly gate, demanding a CBI probe into the exam process and the police's use of force against the students. Mahto expressed support for the students, stating their demands were justified and accusing the government of suppressing their voices.
Former Chief Minister and BJP MLA Babulal Marandi criticized the government for the lathi-charge, calling it the final blow to the administration. He alleged that the exam was riddled with irregularities and that the students' grievances were ignored, pushing for a CBI investigation.
Jharkhand Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu responded, accusing the BJP of exploiting the protests for political gain and claiming the government was ready to address the students' concerns. Meanwhile, JLKM MLA Jairam Mahato condemned the police action, highlighting student injuries and demanding direct engagement from the government to resolve the issue.
