In a major blow to the Kerala government, the High Court on Wednesday cancelled the results of the KEAM entrance exam, citing last-minute rule changes. The court said altering the exam prospectus after the test was unfair.
Justice D.K. Singh ordered the cancellation of the rank list published on July 1 and directed that a new list be prepared using the original, unamended rules. The KEAM exams were held from April 23 to 29, and results were released on May 14.
The controversy began when the government changed the subject weightage ratio from 1:1:1 to 5:3:2 on the same day the rank list was released. The change also removed weightage given to CBSE/ICSE students. Petitioners argued this was arbitrary and unjust.
Higher Education Minister Dr. R. Bindhu defended the decision, calling it well thought out, but said the state will appeal after reviewing the verdict.
Admissions to key professional courses will now be delayed, affecting thousands of students across Kerala.
