Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted raids across multiple locations in the Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar, Baramulla, and Anantnag, as part of an investigation into banned organisations, officials said on Wednesday.
The searches, carried out under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), targeted the residences of former Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Bhat and other key figures linked to proscribed groups. Bhat’s homes in Baramulla and Srinagar’s Wazir Bagh were among the raided sites.
The crackdown focused on members of the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (Bhat Group), Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (Masrat Alam Group), and the Democratic Freedom Party (Shabir Shah Group). Raids also extended to jailed leader Shabir Ahmad Shah’s home.
Other leaders targeted included Masrat Alam Bhat, Ghulam Nabi Sumbji, and Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat. Authorities stated that the operation aimed to further probe the activities of these banned groups.
