External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar completed a successful two-day visit to the Netherlands from May 19 to 20, highlighting the growing strategic partnership between India and the Netherlands. During his stay, Jaishankar held important meetings with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof and Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, focusing on boosting cooperation in trade, technology, and defense.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress in their relationship and agreed to maintain regular high-level exchanges to further strengthen ties. Jaishankar thanked the Netherlands for its support in India's fight against terrorism. Discussions also covered a wide range of areas including science and technology, water management, agriculture, health, education, culture, and people-to-people connections.
The ministers explored ways to expand collaboration in emerging fields like digital technology, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and green hydrogen. Jaishankar also met Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans to discuss enhancing defense and security cooperation.
Additionally, Jaishankar spoke with experts from Dutch think tanks about deeper engagement between India, the Netherlands, and the European Union in today’s multipolar world. He also met with members of the Indian community living in the Netherlands.
This visit, just a month after Minister Veldkamp’s trip to India, shows a strong commitment from both countries to maintain regular dialogue and deepen their partnership. Jaishankar’s current tour includes visits to the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany from May 19 to 24.
