Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused Deputy Inspector Generals of Police (DIGs) in the state of acting like mafia dons and working as collection agents for Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his son, Minister Nara Lokesh.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Jagan alleged that DIGs were controlling local police officers and collecting money through various illegal activities. According to him, half of the money collected from liquor sales, sand, clubs, industries, and mines is shared by police officers and local MLAs, while the remaining half goes to Naidu and his son.
He claimed that unauthorised liquor shops were operating in all villages, selling liquor at higher prices with police support. Jagan said that under his government, sand revenue was Rs 750 crore, but now people pay double in the name of "free sand" under the TDP-led coalition.
Jagan also accused the government of running illegal clubs and forcing industries and mines to pay bribes. He claimed the ruling party was using false cases and physical attacks to silence YSRCP leaders.
Despite these pressures, Jagan stated that his party would continue to fight for the people and hold the government accountable. He warned that Naidu would face consequences for his actions and insisted that YSRCP would return to power.
Jagan further alleged that honest police officers were being targeted and suspended. Many officers, including DGP-level officials, were either suspended or forced to report to headquarters. He cited IPS officer Siddharth Kaushal’s voluntary retirement as an example of good officers leaving due to harassment.
