At least five people have been arrested from New Town near Kolkata in connection with the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra, police said on Saturday. The arrests came after joint raids by Patna Police and West Bengal STF early Saturday morning. Mishra, a murder convict from Bihar’s Buxar district, was shot dead by gunmen inside a private hospital in Patna while on parole.
According to officials, the accused were hiding in a flat in New Town after fleeing Patna following the killing. Four of the five arrested were directly involved in the murder. Police tracked them using mobile tower locations and will present them before a local court seeking transit remand.
CCTV footage of the attack showed five armed men entering the hospital ICU and shooting Mishra. Mishra, who was admitted for treatment, had been involved in 24 criminal cases, including more than 12 murders.
The incident has raised serious concerns about hospital security. SP Patna (Central), Diksha, said investigators are probing how the attackers managed to reach Mishra’s room without any security checks. She noted the attack involved five unmasked gunmen who entered the second floor, fired at Mishra, and escaped quickly. Authorities are also investigating possible inside help that allowed the security breach.
