The Congress on Thursday took a pointed swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his return from a five-nation tour, questioning his continued absence from key domestic crises. The party urged Modi to now turn his attention to urgent national issues, particularly the prolonged violence in Manipur and the unresolved Pahalgam terror attack.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, in a strongly worded statement, welcomed the Prime Minister back from his foreign engagements, sarcastically referring to him as India’s “Super Premium Frequent Flier PM.” Ramesh remarked that with Modi now back in the country, he should consider visiting Manipur, where residents have been awaiting his presence for over two years. He also called on the Prime Minister to review why the perpetrators of the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack remain at large, and to reflect on the collapse of infrastructure in his home state Gujarat, particularly the bridge accident in Vadodara that killed 13 people.
The Congress leader further urged Modi to chair an all-party meeting ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, scheduled to begin on July 21, to build consensus on key legislative priorities. He also pressed the PM to address economic concerns, including the reform of the GST structure and fostering private investment beyond a select few corporate entities. Modi recently concluded his diplomatic tour of Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia, where he also attended the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil and received Namibia’s highest civilian honor.
