Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday assured that action would be taken against those responsible for the attack on a Marathi family in Kalyan, regardless of their position. The issue was raised in the Assembly by Shiv Sena-UBT legislator Sunil Prabhu, who demanded action against the accused, identified as Akhilesh Shukla. Prabhu claimed Shukla severely beat a Marathi man in Kalyan’s Yogidham area and flaunted his alleged connections, claiming he was untouchable by the law.
In response, Pawar emphasized that the administration would act swiftly and uphold the dignity of the Marathi people, no matter the accused’s rank. Other opposition members, including NCP-SP’s Rohit Pawar, supported Prabhu’s call for action, questioning whether such incidents would become routine.
Shiv Sena-UBT’s Aaditya Thackeray demanded that the offence be classified under the Sedition Law, urging Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to announce stringent measures. He also suggested that the occupation certificates of societies where such incidents occurred be revoked.
Shiv Sena-UBT MP Sanjay Raut condemned the growing trend of attacks on Marathi people, not just in Kalyan but also in Mumbai. He blamed the BJP for weakening the Marathi cause, alleging efforts to marginalize Marathi people from their own state.
