The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the ongoing water crisis in Delhi, accusing the ruling dispensation of inaction and administrative failure.
Addressing a press conference, AAP Delhi state convener and minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said several parts of the national capital, including Deoli, Ambedkar Nagar, Model Town, and Hari Nagar, are reeling under severe water shortages. “People have taken to the streets in protest, but the government seems to be asleep,” he remarked.
Bharadwaj questioned the BJP government’s response to the crisis, particularly asking how many tubewells had been installed to address the shortage. “I am not referring to the tubewells installed by MLAs using their development funds, but those installed by the government itself,” he clarified.
He criticised what he called the “four-engine government” of the BJP — referring to its control at the Centre, Delhi Police, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and the Lieutenant Governor’s office. “When AAP was in power, the LG and BJP repeatedly blamed us for poor water management. Why is there no accountability now?” he asked.
Echoing similar sentiments, former AAP MLA Akhilesh Pati Tripathi said the BJP’s “four-engine” administration has failed to provide even the most basic necessity — water — to Delhi’s residents. As the crisis deepens amid scorching summer temperatures, the AAP has demanded immediate intervention. The BJP has yet to respond to the allegations.
