Unni Mukundan shelves Marco 2 sequel

CityHilights

Actor Unni Mukundan has confirmed that the much-anticipated sequel to his 2024 action-thriller Marco has been officially shelved. Citing overwhelming negativity surrounding the project, the actor took to social media on June 15 to announce that Marco 2 will no longer move forward. In a brief but candid post, Mukundan responded to a fan asking about the sequel, saying, “Apologies, but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I’ll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thanks for all the love and positivity.”

The update has left many fans surprised and disappointed, especially given the first film’s success. Marco, directed by Haneef Adeni, was a neo-noir action film that garnered praise for its gripping screenplay, intense action sequences, and Mukundan’s transformative performance as Mark D Peter Jr.—a man on a violent path of revenge after the murder of his foster brother.

The film released simultaneously in Malayalam and Hindi in 2024, followed by a Telugu release on January 1 and a Tamil release on January 3. Produced on a budget of ₹30 crore, Marco performed well at the box office and earned a cult following among action film fans.

Despite the sequel being dropped, Mukundan’s statement hinting at a new and “bigger” project has already reignited fan anticipation. The actor, now a pan-India name, continues to explore bold themes and complex characters, promising more exciting performances ahead. Further announcements about his next venture are expected soon.
