Veteran actress Neena Gupta is reuniting with longtime friend and fellow NSD alumnus Anupam Kher in Anurag Basu’s upcoming film Metro... In Dino, a spiritual successor to the 2007 hit Life in a... Metro.
In a chat with NDTV, Neena opened up about playing an elderly couple opposite Kher. When asked about comparisons to Dharmendra and Nafisa Ali’s pairing in the original film, she smiled and said, They’re not competition. The director casts based on his vision. Star power matters for leads, not for actors like us.
She fondly recalled working with Dharmendra in the past and expressed her wish to act with him again. She also revisited her viral 2019 comment on Saand Ki Aankh, where she had questioned casting young actors in older roles, saying, At least give roles of our age to us.
Neena and Anupam last appeared together in Shiv Shastri Balboa (2023), but their chemistry dates back to Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983). When two good actors come together, chemistry is automatic, she said. We know each other’s habits and moods well.
Neena added that she’s equally comfortable working with new actors.
Directed by Anurag Basu, Metro... In Dino features a stellar cast including Sara Ali Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Pankaj Tripathi, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, and Konkona Sen Sharma. It hits theatres on July 4.
