Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has confirmed that the hit song Monica from his upcoming film Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, was added purely for business reasons. Speaking during a promotional event, Lokesh said the song wasn’t part of his usual filmmaking style.
“The ‘Monica’ song was kept only for business purposes,” Lokesh explained. “My films usually don’t have item numbers. But this one fits in without disturbing the story.” The song features Pooja Hegde and Soubin Shahir, whose dance moves have taken social media by storm.
Coolie is set to release on August 14 and has already completed censor formalities, receiving an A certificate, which surprised fans. Expectations are sky-high, with trade analysts predicting record-breaking box office numbers if early reviews are positive.
Lokesh compared Monica to Kaavaalaa from Jailer, where Rajinikanth had a dancing moment. In Coolie, he clarified, there was no space for Rajinikanth to dance, so actor Soubin Shahir was chosen for the spotlight in this catchy number.
With the soundtrack climbing music charts and buzz building, Coolie is shaping up to be one of the year’s most talked-about Tamil films.
