Actress Gillian Anderson was awarded the prestigious CineMerit Award at the Munich International Film Festival, and she said she felt “unbelievably honoured” by the recognition. Speaking at the event, Anderson admitted, “I feel like I’ve been in a bit of a hole. I just keep doing my thing, and sometimes I forget that people are paying attention.”
Known globally for her role as Dana Scully in The X-Files, Anderson reflected on how her view of the character has changed with time. “At the time, it felt like too big a responsibility. But now, I see how much she meant — to people in science, the LGBTQ+ community, and beyond. It’s easier to celebrate her impact now.”
She revealed that Scully’s influence still guides her work. “There are new projects I’m working on — a film and a book — that are shaped by her legacy.”
Anderson also spoke about her latest film The Salt Path, directed by Marianne Elliott. The movie follows a couple facing homelessness and illness, choosing to take a long coastal journey. “It’s the kind of story that can make audiences think differently, act more kindly, and reflect on real-life struggles,” she said.
Beyond acting, Anderson is also a writer and producer. The Munich Film Festival continues until July 6, celebrating powerful voices in cinema like hers.
