Twenty-nine-year-old Akshay, who sustained critical head injuries after a tree branch fell on him while riding his two-wheeler near Brahmachaitanya Temple in Basavanagudi, has been declared brain dead by doctors on Wednesday. The incident occurred on June 15, and despite undergoing emergency surgery, Akshay showed no signs of recovery for over 60 hours.

Medical experts typically consider a patient brain dead if there is no brain activity for 48 hours post-surgery. In Akshay’s case, the prolonged absence of brain response led to the grim diagnosis. He had suffered intense trauma, with bleeding observed from his nose, mouth, and ears, indicating the severity of his injuries.

The accident unfolded when the falling tree branch struck Akshay, causing him to lose control and crash into a parked car. His friend, Prashant, who was riding with him, also sustained injuries and fell to the ground. Nearby residents immediately rushed both men to a hospital.

Akshay, an HR professional working in Rajajinagar, was the family’s sole breadwinner. His family is now facing a dual crisis — emotional and financial — as Akshay’s father is undergoing dialysis and dependent on his support. The tragic turn of events has left the family devastated.

His brother, Benaka Raj, has reached out to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for support, urging assistance in managing medical expenses. The BBMP has reportedly assured the family that it will cover the hospital bills.

As the family grapples with the shocking development, they await further clarity and support. The incident has raised concerns over the safety of city trees and the need for regular inspections to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
