In a tragic incident on the outskirts of the city, a 30-year-old woman and her 8-year-old daughter died by suicide after jumping into a farm pond. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Vishwanathapura police station.

The deceased have been identified as Mala (30) and her younger daughter Anushree (8), a Class 2 student at a private school. Mala's husband and their 10-year-old elder daughter have survived.

According to the police, Mala allegedly took the extreme step following a property dispute within the family. Her husband had reportedly discussed matters with his mother and brother before transferring a 10-gunta plot of land to relatives without informing her. Mala, upset by this, had confronted her husband, leading to frequent arguments.

On Saturday morning, family members noticed that Mala and Anushree were missing and launched a search. A few hours later, their bodies were found floating in a farm pond, prompting immediate police intervention.

Based on a complaint filed by the woman's family, a case has been registered against Mala’s husband under Section 108 of the BNS (abetment of suicide). Further investigation is underway.
