Bengaluru: A family blocked Malleswaram 4th Main Road and 13th Cross Road on Saturday without obtaining official permission, causing severe traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.
The road in front of the Government Girls PU College was barricaded with a large shamiana (tent) to serve food to guests attending a housewarming ceremony. The family reportedly occupied more than 50 meters of public road space.
With vehicles parked on both sides of the street, vehicular movement was severely disrupted. Local residents objected to the unauthorized road closure and questioned whether the organizers had obtained the necessary permissions, leading to a brief tense situation in the locality.
Rajeevi, a local resident, said, “We asked the family why they were using a public road for a private function. Initially, they claimed to have police permission, but upon verification, the police denied granting any such approval. They then said the local MLA had given them the go-ahead, which was also proven false.”
Rajeevi added that police were called by dialing 112, and officers soon arrived at the spot to bring the situation under control. The shamiana was dismantled thereafter.
Another resident alleged that the family not only violated public regulations but also intimidated neighbors who questioned their actions.
The incident has sparked concerns over the misuse of public spaces for private events in residential neighborhoods like Malleswaram.
