Three rural police stations located around Bengaluru city—Kumbalgodu and Avalahalli in Ramanagara district, and Hebbagodi in Bengaluru Rural district—have been brought under the jurisdiction of Bengaluru City Police. The transfer of authority is expected to take place soon, informed DG and IGP Dr. M.A. Saleem.
The decision was made because these areas have largely urbanized and the nature of crimes there has changed significantly. Although the government issued orders on February 6, these police stations have so far continued to operate under district administration.
Since these stations had not yet been integrated into the city police limits, the current Circle Police Constables (CPCs) and Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs) serving there will be brought under the city police. Officers currently working under Bengaluru and Ramanagara districts will operate on a one-month deputation basis before the formal transfer of authority to Bengaluru Police takes place.
Earlier proposals also included merging urbanized areas of Madanayakanahalli and Vishwanathapura police stations in Bengaluru Rural district with adjacent city police stations.
There has been active lobbying within the state police and among local politicians to add more police stations to the Bengaluru City Police Commissionerate. Some other police stations proposed for inclusion include Vijayapura, Rajanukunte in the north, and Bannerughatta, Jigani, Surya Nagar, and Sarjapur in the southern and southeastern parts of the city.
These police stations cover areas that have mostly undergone urbanization, including certain gram panchayats and town municipalities like Sarjapur and Jigani, which were proposed to be included within the Greater Bengaluru limits under the 2024 administrative plan. However, sources say no formal proposal has yet been made regarding these police stations.
