Poor quality products sold: BIS raids FirstCry warehouse

CityHilights

The Indian Standards Bureau (BIS) conducted a raid on a FirstCry warehouse, uncovering the sale and storage of substandard products. Officials found multiple items, including toys and slippers, being kept without valid BIS licenses. The raid revealed misuse of the ISI mark and violations of BIS licensing conditions, especially for products falling under mandatory certification categories as per the Quality Control Orders (QCOs).

The QCOs mandate that any product requiring certification must have a valid BIS license and comply with Indian standards before manufacturing, storing, or selling. During the operation, authorities seized approximately 36,924 units across 33 categories, with a market value estimated at Rs. 14.3 million.

BIS has issued a caution to consumers, urging vigilance when purchasing products. They advise checking for valid BIS certification marks (ISI marks) and manufacturer license numbers to avoid counterfeit or substandard goods. The action emphasizes the importance of regulatory oversight in protecting consumers and ensuring product safety in the Indian market. The BIS’ move aims to clamp down on illegal storage and sale practices, safeguarding public health and maintaining standards in the retail sector.
