In a dramatic turn of events near Shanmukha Temple in RR Nagar, Bengaluru, police opened fire at two murder suspects who allegedly attacked officers with lethal weapons during an attempted arrest. The accused, Deepu (28) and Arun (27), were reportedly involved in the murder of a man named Vijay and were shot in the legs in an act of self-defense.

According to police, the two suspects had killed Vijay (26) on Saturday night by luring him to Janata Colony in JJ Nagar under the pretext of a conversation. Vijay had been released from jail earlier the same day. The murder is believed to have stemmed from an old rivalry.

Acting on credible intelligence that the suspects were hiding in the RR Nagar police limits, a police team including JJ Nagar PI Kempegowda and PSI Padmanabha attempted to arrest them. During the operation, the suspects allegedly attacked ASI Kumar and Constable Kareemsab with deadly weapons. In response, Inspector Kempegowda fired a warning shot into the air, but when the suspects continued their assault, officers fired at their legs to subdue and apprehend them.

The injured officers and suspects were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.

Speaking on the incident, Bengaluru West Division DCP S. Girish confirmed that the accused were hiding in RR Nagar after murdering Vijay in JJ Nagar’s Janata Colony. "Even after warning shots, the suspects attempted to attack the police. They were shot and arrested in self-defense," he stated.

He also confirmed that Vijay had a criminal background and had been released from prison just hours before he was killed. Authorities are continuing their investigation while ensuring medical care for both the injured officers and suspects.
