Apartment associations in and around Horamavu, Kalkere and adjoining areas in Bengaluru East have from Wednesday made it mandatory for house maids and other domestic help to get  a police verification certificate.

This move follows the gruesome rape and murder of Najma 28 a Bangladesh national who was employed in DSR Waterscape apartment. The police had in this case arrested Mudukappa 28, a resident of Kothanur and hailing from Bagalkote.  The body of Najma was found on the banks of Kalkere Lake on January 24.

Speaking to CH on Wednesday, security officials in charge of large apartment complexes in the vicinity who did not wish to be named said “a meeting was held on Wednesday morning following the rape and murder of Najma who was employed in three apartments in DSR Waterscape. It was decided to make police verification and submission of Aadhar card mandatory. After Najma’s tragic death we were grilled by the police on the number of house maids employed here and we had to part with CCTV footages as part of investigation’’.

“Wednesday’s meeting about police verification also discussed the checking of  Aadhar cards as a large number of Aadhar cards of domestic help from outside Karnataka have been found to be fake’’ said a security officer. Meanwhile it is learnt that the Bureau of Immigration here in the city has asked the Ramamurthy Nagar police to furnish information on the deceased Najma to find out if she had entered the country illegally. The largest number of house help, house maids in Bengaluru East hail from Nepal, North East and other parts of the country.
