Vijayanagar police have arrested a man accused of scamming government job aspirants by promising to help them pass competitive exams in exchange for money. The accused, identified as Govindaraju (49), was employed as a Chief Ticket Inspector with South Western Railways at Majestic.

Govindaraju allegedly approached candidates who had recently appeared for competitive exams through intermediaries. Claiming connections with officials involved in the examination process, he assured candidates that he could ensure their success and secure them positions.

He reportedly charged ₹25 lakh for clearing Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) exams and ₹50 lakh for passing the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) preliminary exams. Candidates were instructed to leave unanswered questions in the exam, with the assurance that he would later manipulate the answers to guarantee their success.

Govindaraju is said to have collected essential documents, including SSLC and degree certificates, exam hall tickets, and cheques, as guarantees from the candidates.

The police apprehended Govindaraju on Sunday when he arrived in Vijayanagar to meet a candidate's representative, promising to secure their success in the KAS exam held that day.

During the investigation, authorities discovered photographs on his mobile phone listing 46 candidates' names, alongside notes about cheques and documents collected from them. He admitted to handing over some documents and cheques to intermediaries.
