The much-delayed Magadi–Bengaluru K-SHIP road work will be completed by December this year, assured local MLA H.C. Balakrishna. Addressing residents and officials during a review at the stretch between Talekere Hand Post and Shanbhonahalli–Bachenahatti Gram Panchayat, the MLA responded to complaints and sought updates on the road project.

Blaming the initial delays on the contractor’s inefficiency, Balakrishna said, “Work had slowed down due to lack of urgency from the contractor. But now, the project is picking up speed. We’ve held over 15 review meetings with officials to ensure it gets completed in the next six months, and we’ll make sure commuters finally get a usable, safe road.”

Weekend traffic congestion a key concern

The MLA also raised concerns over heavy vehicular movement between Magadi and Bengaluru, especially during weekends. “Traffic congestion on Saturdays and Sundays has become a serious issue. Necessary steps will be taken to ease the situation,” he said.

Progress on irrigation project to fill 63 tanks

Balakrishna further provided updates on the Sriranga Lift Irrigation Project, which aims to fill 63 lakes across the taluk. “The project is progressing steadily. Officials from the Irrigation Department, including the Managing Director of the corporation, have visited Gottigere, where water from the Hemavathi will be diverted,” he said.

Efforts are underway to resolve pending approvals related to forest clearances, railway lines, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). “Once those hurdles are cleared, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar is expected to inaugurate the project practically,” Balakrishna added.

The review was attended by Tehsildar Sharath Kumar, K-SHIP officials, and engineers from various departments.
