In a major welfare and infrastructure move, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on Friday issued appointment orders to 45 candidates under compassionate grounds. The corporation also distributed ₹3.6 crore in compensation to families of deceased employees. The program, held at the KSRTC Central Office on K.H. Road, was attended by Transport and Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy and KSRTC Vice Chairman Mohammed Rizwan Nawab. After a decade-long suspension, compassionate appointments resumed last year. Since then, 271 positions have been filled, including 152 Karnataka State Transport (KST) Constables. Of these, 45 were newly appointed on Thursday.
Under the Sarige Suraksha accident insurance scheme, ₹1 crore was handed over to the family of an employee who lost his life in a road accident. So far, 27 families have benefited from this scheme, with a total disbursal of ₹27 crore. Additionally, ₹2.60 crore was given to the families of 26 employees who died of non-accidental causes such as heart attacks and cancer. These payments come under the revised Employee Family Welfare Scheme, which increased compensation from ₹3 lakh to ₹10 lakh in November 2023.
Minister Reddy urged the beneficiaries to wisely use the funds for critical needs like children’s education and home construction. He also warned against fraudsters targeting grieving families. To boost long-distance travel, five new Volvo Airavat Club Class 2.0 luxury buses were flagged off. These advanced coaches feature superior safety systems, improved aerodynamics, spacious interiors, and upgraded passenger comfort. KSRTC MD Akram Pasha and senior officials from BMTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC were present.
