Kristu Jayanti College declared as deemed university

Kristu Jayanti College in Bengaluru was officially declared as "Kristu Jayanti Deemed to be University" by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956 on Tuesday.

According to a press release, the college previously had autonomous status before the declaration. The institution was established in 1999 to provide higher education and is managed by the Bodhi Niketan Trust of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI). Fr. Dr. Augustine George CMI, Principal of the college was quoted saying, “With this new status, Kristu Jayanti Deemed to be University is empowered to broaden its academic horizons, foster interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary learning, and contribute to global knowledge creation with enhanced autonomy and accomplish the vision of NEP 2020.”

The press note also said that the college has been accredited A++ by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) and ranked 60th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) by the Ministry of Education in 2024. It was awarded with Gold Rating Campus status by the Government of India and has also been recognized as the Best Clean and Smart Campus.

Beyond academics, Kristu Jayanti has demonstrated excellence in sports and cultural activities, having been crowned Bengaluru North University Champions for the 17th consecutive year.

With its elevation to a deemed university, Kristu Jayanti is set to expand its impact further, continuing to deliver value-based education and uphold the transformative goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the press note added.
