Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) recorded significant growth in passenger traffic and freight in 2024, handling an impressive 4 crore passengers. This milestone further cemented its status among the world’s top airports. Passenger traffic surged from 3.72 crore in 2023 to 4.73 crore in 2024. On October 20, a record 1,26,532 passengers traveled through KIA in a single day. Additionally, the airport achieved a daily average of 723 aircraft traffic movements (ATM), with a peak of 782 ATMs on October 17. Cargo operations also saw remarkable growth, with KIA handling 4,96,227 metric tons of freight, a 17% increase from 2023. Notable shipments included 10.8 million roses and 822 metric tons of mangoes. In 2024, KIA introduced flights to 11 new domestic destinations and 4 international locations, enhancing connectivity to cities like Ayodhya, Deoghar, and international hubs such as Mauritius and Denpasar. Partnerships with new airlines, including Virgin Atlantic and Salam Air, boosted its global network. With over 75 domestic and 30 international routes, KIA continues to be a key aviation hub for South and Central India. Its strategic expansions and operational efficiency underscore its commitment to meeting growing travel and cargo demands, positioning it as a preferred gateway in the region. KIA reported a 21.1% annual increase in international passenger traffic, reflecting the airport’s expanding global footprint and rising demand for overseas travel from Bengaluru. The airport’s operational efficiency was further enhanced through the adoption of advanced technologies, including automated check-in counters and improved baggage handling systems.
