Karnataka is gearing up to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 with a grand event on the steps of Vidhana Soudha, under the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health." Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Governor, and other dignitaries are expected to participate in the event, which anticipates around five thousand attendees. This announcement was made by Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao during a press conference on Tuesday.

Minister Gundu Rao stated that this year, the state aims to teach yoga to five lakh people, with plans to conduct 10,000 yoga programs across Karnataka. A major event is also slated to take place in Mysuru. The minister emphasized the crucial role of yoga for overall health, benefiting both body and mind. He highlighted yoga as an ancient practice that has gained global recognition and importance in countries worldwide.

Addressing the topic of introducing yoga classes in schools, Minister Gundu Rao mentioned that discussions have already taken place on the matter, acknowledging the need for yoga teachers and classes. While he believes yoga is definitely beneficial, he stressed that sports should take precedence for children in schools. He stated that at a young age, children should prioritize sports and be given opportunities for various athletic activities. He added that the benefits of yoga are more profound when taught to individuals at a more mature age, implying that sports teachers would be a higher priority than yoga teachers in schools.
