In a major relief to vehicle owners, the state government has once again extended the deadline for installing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP). A gazette notification has been issued in this regard.

Earlier, the government had mandated the installation of HSRP number plates for all categories of vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, through a notification dated August 17, 2023. The notification had set a strict deadline for compliance. However, many vehicle owners failed to meet the deadline and requested an extension.

Considering these appeals, the government has now extended the deadline until March 31, 2025. It has been clarified that apart from the extension of the deadline, there are no other changes to the original notification issued in August 2023.

Vehicle owners are advised to utilize this extended period to ensure compliance with the HSRP mandate. Failure to install the plates after the new deadline may result in penalties as per the Motor Vehicles Act. HSRP plates are designed to prevent vehicle theft and tampering, as they come with a unique laser code and a non-removable snap lock.

The government has urged vehicle owners not to delay further and get the plates installed at authorized centers to avoid inconvenience in the future. The transport department has also emphasized that vehicle owners should book their HSRP plates through authorized portals to avoid falling prey to fraudulent vendors. The installation process is streamlined and can be completed within a few days after booking.
