Hopcoms grape and watermelon mela begins in Bengaluru

 The much-awaited Grape and Watermelon Mela has commenced at Hopcoms stores across Bengaluru, inaugurated by MLA Uday B. Garudachar at the Hopcoms headquarters on Lalbagh Double Road. This annual fruit festival offers a 10% discount on all grape and watermelon varieties until the end of the season. The mela features 13 to 14 varieties of grapes and watermelons sourced from districts like Bagalkot, Koppal, Chikkaballapur, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, and Kolar. Prominent grape varieties include Bangalore Blue, Sharad Seedless, Krishna Sharad, Thomson Seedless, Sonaka, Jumbo Sharad, and Australia Red Globe. Watermelon varieties such as Yellow, Wide, Kiran, and Namdhari are also in high demand. Prices for grapes range from ₹76 per kg for Bangalore Blue to ₹310 per kg for Australia Red Globe. Watermelons, including the yellow variety, are priced at ₹40 per kg. The 10% discount is applicable to all varieties throughout the mela. Hopcoms Managing Director Mirji Umesh Shankar, former chairman Chandre Gowda, and other dignitaries attended the event. Following the conclusion of the grape and watermelon mela, Hopcoms will host the Mango and Jackfruit Festival, a much-anticipated annual event held at Lalbagh. With the onset of summer, the mela offers Bengalureans a chance to enjoy fresh, locally sourced fruits at discounted rates while promoting farmers from nearby districts.
