The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert forecasting heavy rainfall across various parts of Karnataka until July 31, causing concerns among farmers and residents. Over the past week, widespread rains have already disrupted agricultural activities, particularly sowing operations in several regions.

In its latest bulletin, the IMD stated that rainfall intensity is expected to increase further, especially in coastal and Malnad regions. An orange alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi districts on July 29, indicating the possibility of very heavy rainfall and potential disruption to daily life. For July 30 and 31, the alert has been downgraded to yellow, signaling continued moderate to heavy rains. Meanwhile, the Malnad region — including Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Kodagu districts — is also likely to experience significant rainfall during this period. These areas have been placed under a yellow alert from the IMD.

Farmers in several districts have expressed concern as the persistent rains have delayed sowing schedules and hampered ongoing agricultural work. The state government is closely monitoring the situation, and district administrations have been advised to stay prepared for any rain-related emergencies. Authorities have urged residents in low-lying areas and hilly regions to remain cautious and follow local advisories. The general public has been requested to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated with weather bulletins. The IMD continues to track the monsoon pattern and will issue updates based on real-time developments.
