Sandalwood actress Ranya Rao has been arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in connection with a gold smuggling case. She was detained at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, where authorities seized 14.8 kg of gold worth ₹12 crore. Investigations have revealed Ranya’s frequent international travel history. According to immigration records, she made multiple trips to Europe, the United States, and Dubai. She visited Dubai on December 24 and returned on December 27. In January, she traveled to the U.S. for a week, returning to Bengaluru on January 25. In February, she took five trips to Dubai between February 2 and March 3. Meanwhile, a video has surfaced showing Ranya celebrating at a family wedding just weeks before her arrest. She was seen dancing at the wedding of Soundarya Jayamala and Rishabh, carrying a ceremonial pot alongside her mother, Rohini. This has raised questions about her family’s knowledge of her alleged involvement in smuggling. Ranya’s stepfather, K. Ramachandra Rao, distanced himself from the matter, stating he had not been in touch with her for four months. However, conflicting statements from the family have fueled speculation. Currently, Ranya is in judicial custody for 14 days as the investigation continues. Authorities are now probing how Ranya managed to smuggle such a large quantity of gold and whether she had connections with an international smuggling network. Sources indicate that she may have used her frequent travels as a cover for illegal activities.
