The president of the Cubbon Park Walkers' Association, S. Umesh, has urged the government to clarify its stance on the proposed establishment of a private art center in Cubbon Park. He emphasized that if no clear statement is provided, protests will be organized.
Speaking at a press conference Umesh condemned the decision to lease five acres of land within Cubbon Park to an entrepreneur for the construction of a private art center. He argued that such actions would harm the park's beauty, especially considering that concrete structures have already been erected in the name of development.
He pointed out that the once expansive 300-acre Cubbon Park has now been reduced to just 197 acres, asserting that it is a protected area. Umesh stressed that the integrity of the park should not be compromised, as it serves as a habitat for diverse wildlife, including various species of animals and birds. He underscored the responsibility of both the government and the public to safeguard this green space.
Umesh also mentioned that a petition has been submitted to the Governor Thawarchand Gehlot, urging him to instruct the government to refrain from any further development activities within the park.
