An LPG cylinder blast at an apartment on Davis Road in Pulikeshi Nagar police station limits left two people injured and caused extensive damages to the building early on Wednesday morning, police said.
Police said the blast occurred at around 5 am on Wednesday. The explosion which occurred on the first floor of the building was so intense that the outer wall of the house was blown apart, scattering debris onto the road below. Neighbouring houses also sustained damage due to the impact of the flying debris. The blast was so intense that it damaged the second and third floor of the building.
Errol Dale Pinto a friend of the family told CH ``the injured are Cilara Jacob 45 and her husband Siddesh Mhatre 55. Cilara Jacob suffered 90 per cent burns and is critical while Mhatre had 70 per cent burn injuries. Both the injured have been admitted to the St. John’s Hospital.
A large crowd gathered on Davis Road on hearing of the blast. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and battled the blaze for nearly an hour.
Police suspect the explosion was caused by a gas leak that accumulated overnight. The blast occurred when Cilara had switched on the stove early in the morning and she suffered the maximum injuries.
A resident of Cline Road who did not wish to be named said ``it was around 5 am when the blast occurred I was fast asleep and was jolted when I heard the sound and I was under the impression that the ongoing track relaying work in Bangalore East Railway station was on and that the workers were using a dynamite to remove some boulder along the railway track’’.
