A woman tragically lost her life in a road accident involving a BMTC bus near the Silk Institution Metro Station in Bengaluru on Tuesday. The incident occurred when a bus traveling from KR Market to Hanchipura Colony collided with a two-wheeler. According to eyewitnesses, the woman, who was riding pillion on the motorcycle, died on the spot due to the impact. The bike rider sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The incident has sparked public outrage at the accident site.
In the immediate aftermath, an angry crowd attempted to confront the BMTC driver and conductor. However, both fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. The accident falls under the jurisdiction of the Thalaghattapura Police Station, and a case has been registered.
This is the second fatal accident involving a BMTC bus within just five days. On Friday, a 25-year-old woman named Suma was killed in Peenya 2 second Stage after being hit by an electric BMTC bus. These back-to-back incidents have raised concerns over the safety protocols followed by BMTC drivers and the growing number of accidents involving public transport vehicles in the city. Residents and local activists have called for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better driver training to prevent such recurring tragedies. An investigation into the latest incident is currently underway.
