In a major step toward improving urban mobility, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) have opened up their real-time transport data for third-party integration. Popular mobility apps Namma Yatri and Tummoc are now leveraging this data to offer seamless first- and last-mile connectivity for commuters across the city.
The move, lo”g demanded by commuters and tech developers, allows users to plan their entire journey—covering buses, metro trains, and autorickshaws—within a single digital platform. With the addition of new features, passengers can view real-time vehicle locations, plan optimized travel routes, and even purchase one consolidated ticket for multi-modal transport. For example, a commuter traveling from Whitefield to Jayanagar can now use one of these apps to book a route that combines an auto ride to the metro station, a metro journey, and a BMTC bus to the final stop—all with one transaction.
Officials from both BMTC and BMRCL believe this data-sharing initiative will reduce commuter confusion, ease urban congestion, and encourage the use of public transport systems. By bridging the gap between various transit modes, the city aims to move closer to a fully integrated, commuter-friendly transport network. This development aligns with the Smart City vision and reflects Bengaluru’s growing emphasis on digitized, inclusive urban mobility. Authorities plan to expand this integration further, welcoming other apps and private service providers to utilize public transport data responsibly.
