The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has assured that it will review its latest job notification and rectify any typographical errors if found. Managing Director Maheshwar Rao stated that while they must adhere to government policies, they will address concerns regarding recruitment criteria. The controversy arose after it was alleged that the notification prevented Karnataka candidates from applying for metro job vacancies. Addressing the issue, Rao emphasized that the metro has been operational for a decade and welcomes skilled local candidates. He clarified that these positions are contractual and that BMRCL will re-examine the notification. In response, pro-Kannada activists staged a protest outside the BMRCL headquarters, condemning the recruitment criteria. The metro had invited applications for 50 train operator positions, but activists alleged that only candidates with experience in Chennai and Hyderabad metros were eligible. Karnataka students and job seekers expressed outrage, demanding immediate withdrawal of the recruitment process. Protestors accused BMRCL of deliberately excluding local candidates by mandating three years of metro train operation experience. They claimed this requirement favored out-of-state candidates, preventing Karnataka youths from securing employment. Demonstrators raised slogans outside the BMRCL office, prompting heavy police security. Protestors warned that unless local candidates were given fair opportunities, they would escalate their agitation. A memorandum was submitted to the BMRCL MD, urging immediate changes in the recruitment policy.
