A 13-year-old boy who went missing on Wednesday evening was found dead and burnt on the outskirts of Bengaluru, in a disturbing case of abduction and murder. Two suspects have been arrested following an overnight police operation.

The victim, Nishchith A, a Class 8 student of Christ School, left his residence on Arekere 80 Feet Road around 5 pm to attend tuition classes but failed to return. Concerned, his family began searching for him and found his bicycle abandoned near Arekere Family Park. Around the same time, they received a ransom call demanding ₹5 lakh. A kidnapping case was immediately registered at the Hulimavu police station.

Bengaluru police launched a swift investigation and tracked the caller’s location. During the search, officers discovered Nishchith’s burnt body along Kaggalipura Road on Thursday.

Late in the night, police intercepted two suspects—Gurumurthy and Gopal Krishna—near the crime scene. When the accused allegedly tried to attack officers during the arrest, police opened fire in self-defence. Gurumurthy was shot in both legs, and Gopal Krishna in one. Both are undergoing treatment under custody.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Gurumurthy, a former spare driver at Nishchith’s home, was familiar with the family and is suspected to be the mastermind. Financial motives and personal knowledge are believed to have played a role.

Police suspect more people may be involved and are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the conspiracy.

The incident has shocked the city and raised concerns over the safety of children in urban areas.
