To alleviate public inconvenience amid ongoing delays, the South Western Railway Zone will open the revamped Bengaluru Cantonment Railway Station in two phases. A newly constructed 45-meter-long, 5-meter-wide footbridge, connecting Station Road and Millers Road, will be accessible without a platform ticket for easier pedestrian movement.

The ₹480 crore redevelopment project, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 20, 2022, aims to transform Karnataka’s oldest railway station into a world-class transport hub.

Initially set for completion by October 2025, sources now indicate that the project is facing delays. As part of the phased opening, the air-conditioned south-side building is expected to become operational within 6 to 7 months, although underground parking will take longer to complete.

The north-side entrance and parking facilities, designed to accommodate 500 cars and an equal number of two-wheelers, will also require additional time. A major highlight of the redevelopment is the 136-meter-long, 30-meter-wide air concourse, suspended above the rail tracks. Additionally, suburban train platforms 1A, B, C, and D will have dedicated entry and exit points for improved passenger flow.

For the first time, the station will feature escalators and lifts, significantly enhancing accessibility. Moreover, the station will be seamlessly integrated with Bengaluru Metro’s upcoming Pink Line, improving urban connectivity.
