In a stern crackdown on auto drivers violating fare norms, the Transport Department in Bengaluru has seized 15 autorickshaws for allegedly overcharging passengers. The action was initiated after multiple complaints were received from commuters about drivers demanding fares above the government-fixed rates.

Following the complaints, transport officials conducted surprise inspections across key city locations. During the operation, several auto drivers were found flouting fare rules and were penalized accordingly. As part of enforcement, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials seized 15 vehicles for violating pricing regulations.

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has directed the Transport Commissioner to take strict and immediate action against drivers who exploit passengers by charging beyond the metered or notified fares. He also emphasized that legal steps would be taken against any auto driver found breaking the law.

Officials confirmed that further drives would be conducted to curb such practices and ensure fair fare implementation across the city. Commuters are also encouraged to report any instances of overcharging or refusal to ply to the concerned authorities.

The department reiterated that auto drivers must strictly adhere to the officially approved fare structure and warned that failure to do so would result in vehicle seizure, fines, and possible suspension of driving licenses. This crackdown is part of the government’s larger effort to bring discipline to Bengaluru’s auto services and protect passengers from harassment, especially in areas with limited public transport connectivity.
