Tata Motors reported total sales of 2,10,415 vehicles in Q1 FY26, registering a 9% year-on-year drop compared to 2,29,891 units in the same period last year. The company’s commercial vehicle (CV) segment saw a 6% decline, selling 85,606 units, while passenger vehicle (PV) sales fell by 10% to 1,24,809 units.

In June 2025, domestic sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles (MH&ICVs) were 12,871 units, down from 14,640 units in June 2024. Total MH&ICV sales, including exports, stood at 40,401 units for the quarter, slightly lower than 41,974 units last year.

Girish Wagh, Executive Director at Tata Motors, expressed optimism for future quarters, citing a strong monsoon outlook, possible repo rate cuts, and infrastructure push as key drivers for CV demand. He emphasized the company’s focus on customer-centric strategies to boost volumes.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors PV and EV units, said the company sold 1,24,809 PV units in Q1, including 16,231 electric vehicles (EVs). EV sales gained momentum towards the end of the quarter. The updated Tiago recorded 16% growth, and new models like the Altroz and Harrier.ev received strong initial responses.

He added that while industry-wide growth may remain moderate, Tata Motors is well-positioned to grow with its new offerings in hatchbacks, SUVs, and EVs, continuing to align sales with market demand.
