Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal began a two-day visit to the United Kingdom to push forward the India–UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and strengthen economic ties. The visit comes at a crucial time, as both countries seek to finalise the FTA for mutual benefit.
Goyal will meet UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds to assess negotiation progress and create a timeline for completing the deal. He will also meet Chancellor Rachel Reeves to discuss financial cooperation and investments.
The visit aims to boost collaboration across key sectors including logistics, fintech, and advanced manufacturing. The minister will also meet Lisa Nandy, UK’s Secretary for Culture, Media and Sport, to explore partnerships in creative and innovation-based industries.
At the India Global Forum, Goyal will speak at several sessions including “Future Frontiers Forum” and “From Agreement to Action: UK–India FTA.” These events will involve global leaders, investors, and experts discussing the future of India–UK trade.
India and the UK are working to strengthen trade amid changing global economic trends. Prime Ministers of both countries have committed to fast-tracking the FTA. Goyal’s visit reinforces that commitment and sets the stage for final discussions.
This strategic engagement is expected to enhance bilateral trade, promote cross-border investments, and establish a strong economic partnership for the future. The Commerce Ministry said the visit is aimed at ensuring a forward-looking and resilient trade relationship between the two nations.
