Infosys has reportedly laid off around 700 campus recruits at its Mysuru campus, citing multiple failed internal assessments. However, the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has accused the company of unethical practices and intimidation tactics, urging government intervention.

NITES president Harpreet Singh Saluja called the layoffs “shocking and unethical,” claiming that employees were forcefully terminated. Many affected employees alleged that assessment criteria and syllabi were modified during the evaluation process, making it harder to pass.

Infosys, however, defended its actions, stating that all freshers receive three attempts to clear the assessment, a long-standing policy outlined in employee contracts. The company maintains that those who fail cannot continue employment. While reports indicate 700 layoffs, Infosys claims the number is closer to 350.

Most affected employees belong to the 2022 engineering batch and had already faced a two-year delay before onboarding in October 2023. They were initially promised salaries of ₹3.2-3.7 lakh per year for system engineer roles.

NITES also alleged that bouncers and security personnel were used to intimidate employees, preventing them from carrying mobile phones to document the incident. The organization argues that these actions violate the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, and has called for government intervention to safeguard IT workers' rights.
