The Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) is working hard to improve quality standards in India’s trade and manufacturing sectors. The aim is to make Indian products more competitive across the world.

Speaking at the ‘Bharat Quality Mission’ event, DoCA Secretary Nidhi Khare said quality is key for success in both global and domestic markets. “To be globally competitive, we must stick to quality,” Khare told IANS. “Even in India, consumers expect reliable and well-made products.”

The government is focusing on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which form a large part of India’s manufacturing base. Khare said that helping MSMEs meet quality standards is a priority. Officials are talking directly with small businesses to understand and solve their challenges.

“Assurance of quality is not just for exports. It matters for our local markets too,” she said. “We must not ignore quality in any area.”

The Bharat Quality Mission event brought together MSME leaders and industry groups. It focused on teaching the importance of quality and encouraging businesses to improve their products.

Khare added, “Any nation that wants to grow must ensure its goods are trusted. Quality can’t be ignored.”

The push for higher standards is expected to strengthen India’s reputation, help exports grow, and build trust among global and local buyers.
