The average monthly salary for contractual workers in India’s telecom sector rose to ₹25,225 in FY25, up from ₹24,609 in FY22. This shows the industry's effort to offer better pay and remain competitive, according to a new report by TeamLease Services.

In 2025, telecom companies slowed the pace of hiring contractual staff but continued to invest in young talent. Most contractual workers are between 18 and 32 years old, showing the sector's focus on youth. Over 60 percent of workers in these roles have less than two years of experience, which shows their entry-level nature.

The growth in associate-level roles slowed to 11.9 percent in FY25. This indicates that the sector is expanding its workforce more carefully now. Still, attrition levels have stayed steady—50.8 percent in FY22 and 50.3 percent in FY25.

Kartik Narayan, CEO of Staffing at TeamLease, said telecom companies are adjusting their hiring approach. They want smart, young professionals for customer-facing and technical jobs. These employees are seen as key to future growth.

Meanwhile, rural India is driving new growth in telecom. Internet usage in villages jumped from 59 percent in 2020 to 78 percent in 2024. Urban areas also grew, from 77 to 90 percent. With more data users in rural regions, telecom companies are improving connectivity and expanding their customer base.

These trends are expected to boost average revenue per user (ARPU), helping the sector grow stronger in the years ahead.
