Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Indian airlines Air India and IndiGo have issued travel advisories regarding flight disruptions due to the closure of Iranian airspace. Air India confirmed on Saturday that it has rerouted multiple international flights to ensure passenger and crew safety. In a statement posted on X, the airline said, Due to the emerging situation in Iran and nearby regions, and subsequent airspace closures, some of our flights are operating on longer alternative routes. We are working to minimise inconvenience to our passengers.
The closure of Iran’s airspace has affected several major routes connecting India to Europe, North America, and Central Asia. IndiGo also informed passengers via X that continued unavailability of airspace over Iran and nearby areas could lead to route adjustments, causing longer travel times and possible delays.
IndiGo urged passengers to check real-time flight status through its website or app before leaving for the airport. Both airlines assured that their customer service teams are actively helping affected travellers and making efforts to minimise delays.
As a result of rerouting, flights to and from the Gulf, Europe, and Central Asia are experiencing delays ranging from 30 minutes to a few hours. Passengers have been advised to stay informed and keep in touch with airline helplines.
The disruption follows Iran’s reaction to recent Israeli airstrikes, heightening concerns over regional airspace safety. Aviation regulators in several countries have issued NOTAMs, urging airlines to avoid Iranian skies. Experts suggest the disruption could last for days or weeks, depending on how diplomatic talks unfold. Travellers are advised to plan ahead and stay updated.
