Excise Department Is Completely Inactive, Accuses MLA B Suresh Gowda

The Excise department is completely inactive in the rural areas, MLA B. Suresh Gowda has warned that if there is no curb on the illegal sale of liquor in the rural areas, he will write a letter to the Chief Secretary for disciplinary action against the concerned officials.

He spoke in the first quarter KDP meeting of 2023-24.  He said that a young man jumped into the lake in Gangonahalli under the influence of alcohol. Liquor is being sold in tens of houses in every village without any warning. Some liquor shop owners are trying to increase their business. There is an allegation that they are encouraging door to door selling of liquor. The MLA warned that the accused villages would be attacked immediately and if action is not taken, a sit-in with women would be held in front of your office.

According to the excise rules, CL 7  shops must be opened after 9 am.  But they are opening at 7 am. Also, there are instances in the rural areas by lending alcohol to the rural people to drink and collecting expensive money.  The department is limited to income rather than people’s lives. 

  He warned that the agencies involved in the construction work under various departments including Public Works, Panchayat Raj Engineering should complete the works taken under the SCP, TSP project within the next three months, without any compromise on the quality, he instructed the contractors to do good work. The given MLA suggested that the school room, toilet, connection road works should be completed within the next three months, and if there is a land dispute, they are ready to make necessary changes if a proposal is submitted for change of work.
