A wild buffalo, which fell into an open well, has been rescued. The bison had fallen into an open well near a bee-keeping building at Chippali Lingadahalli in Sagar taluk. The well is about 25 feet deep and while crossing the road, two bison jumped on the compound of the agricultural building. At this point, the big bison jumped and ran away. However, when the villagers, who saw a small bison, around 9 years old, lying inside an open well, informed environmentalist Akhilesh Chipli and rescued the bison.

Akhilesh Chipli immediately informed the forest and fire brigade. The firefighters who reached the spot later got down and tried to lift the bison up, but could not. The buffalo, which was inside the well, weighed around 8 tonnes and if he dared to get into the well and lift it up, it could have escaped and fallen down.

Responding to a request made by the DFO officials of Sagar to contact the CCF and call an anaesthetists for the animals, the officials had sent Murali Mohan, a doctor from Shivamogga Tiger and Lion Sanctuary, to Chippally.

Dr Murali Mohan,   reached the spot, administered anaesthesia according to the weight of the wild buffalo and made him unconscious, the fire brigade personnel immediately got inside the well, tied a rope to the buffalo and lifted it up with the help of a crane.  The fire brigade carried out a quick operation and completed the work in about 40 minutes. By the time the bison was brought up and the rope and belt removed, it had regained consciousness and ran towards the forest in a semi-conscious manner.
